A Command To Walk

We celebrated my Grandmother’s 90th birthday recently.  I took upon myself to set up the festivities.  The day of the party we arrived early to her apartment and began to set up in the community room.  By the time the party started I was exhausted and sweating profusely.

By the time we arrived back home I was so tired that I could hardly stand up, let alone walk.  Yet, I had to get out of the van and walk in the house.  Not only that; but, I had to help my wife; who was exhausted too and more so, unload the van.  I kept telling myself, “Left foot.  Right foot.”

Another of God’s commands to Jeremiah was to walk.  Look at Jeremiah 6:16, “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”  The word “walk” means to walk or carry.  Some days it seems to be easy to walk with God.  Other days it seems nearly impossible to walk with God.

It does not matter how we “feel”.  We have been commanded to walk with God and to carry the message of the gospel to the world around us.  Our problem is that we allow things to cloud our thinking and perspective and then we get knocked off course and we sit down and quit walking and carrying.  We have to remember it is a command and not a suggestion.

The Glory Is Departed 6

The other day I took some friends to the airport.  As we were driving along in the area of the interstate there were some birds flying around.  They seemed to be in some kind of duress.  While the conversation flowed along I was watching the birds while driving.  I was a dispatcher for many years and I have the ability to multitask.

All of a sudden I shouted, “Wow!”  We watched as a hawk swooped in and grabbed another bird right out of the air.  Feathers flew for sure.  It was amazing to say the least.  My thoughts then went to the Scriptures.  Look at I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

You might be asking what this has to do with our current series.  When we walk with God and know His glory I do not believe that we are as prone to this kind of attack.  What I mean is that we are yielded to the Holy Spirit and He warns us and guides us.  He also uses the Word of God to protect and guide us.  When “The Glory Is Departed” and we are just out there wandering around we are vulnerable.

So, how are you doing?

He Walked With God

On Sunday evening I received a phone call from my Pastor.  He was calling me to let me know that a very dear Pastor friend had ended his tour of duty in this life and had taken his Heavenly flight.  This is always bitter sweet.  I would not wish someone back to this vale of tears and heartache for nothing.  On the other hand there is a void that is left in the lives of family and friends when one leaves for eternity.

Pastor Robert Hooten was a kind and gentle giant of a Christian.  His legacy will extend far past Sunday evening.  This man had such a great and godly influence on people that he will not soon be forgotten.  He will especially be missed by those who know and love him.

I am so glad that my wife and I took the time one week ago yesterday evening to go visit he and his dear wife Eileen.  I don’t know how much of a comfort we were; but, they were a real encouragement to me for sure.

When I think of Pastor Bob Hooten I think of Genesis 5:24, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”  I would change “Enoch” for Bob.  It will not be long and we will be reunited with Pastor Hooten I feel confident.  Here is the important question.  Are you prepared for Heaven?  I mean have you trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour?  If not you will not be in Heaven for eternity.  It is so simple to get to Heaven yet so many people miss it.  Don’t miss it, I beg you.
