Commanded To Stand

As our nation becomes increasingly anti-Christ we will be called upon to take a stand for God.  Some Christians do not want to do that.  Well, there is no room for wishy-washy Christians in our day any longer.  Our numbers are being beheaded for their faith and killed in various ways.  There is no time for us to be sitting on our padded Church pews singing “Blessed Assurance”.

In the Word of God we are charged, challenged and called to do many things. God gives a command to Jeremiah to God’s people.  Look at what that was.  Jeremiah 6:16, “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”

First of all God exhorts His children through Jeremiah to “Stand ye in the ways,”.  If we are not careful we will fall for the schemes of the devil.  This is one of those exhortations that is good for you and I to take note of and obey.  God has called each of His children to stand.

If you and I take a stand for God we will be targeted for sure.  The world will laugh at us.  They will make fun of us.  They will ridicule us terribly.  They might even go so far as to take our lives.  Rest in the knowledge that God knows all of this.  You and I need to just simply keep standing for God no matter what the world or anyone else does.

So, how are you doing?

The 7-Ups of Encouraging Yourself In The LORD 4

So far we have looked at some ways to encourage ourselves.  They are so far; wake up, dress up and shut up.  Let’s continue our study.

The 7-Ups of Encouraging Yourself In The LORD – Stand Up!

I have heard all of my life, “If you are not standing for something you will fall for anything.”  I don’t know who originally said that; but, I have heard and it and used it for many years.

I am sure it is difficult for you as it is for most of us to stand up when it is not popular to stand up.  Today, Christians are targeted in so many ways.  The world wants to force us back into our Church buildings and then they want to tell us what we can and cannot preach or say.  Wrong!

Dear Christian friend we need to stand up and make our voices heard.  God has equipped us to do this and we need to do just that.  We need to take a stand for Jesus Christ and we must not back down.  Look at Ephesians 6:13, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”  The first two words of verse 14 say, “Stand therefore…”.

Well, there you have it.  If we are going to encourage ourselves then we must stand up.  When we take a stand we change our focus.  We begin to focus on what God wants us to do and not what is wrong in our lives or with us.  We get discouraged when we take our focus off the LORD and put it on ourself.  The least attended part of all is a pity party.  It is normally a party for one.  It is high time for the Church to stand up and get busy

Standing

David Childers is a character in the movie “Facing the Giants”.  His father is in a wheelchair.  In the state championship football game, Mr. Childers manages to get himself out of his wheelchair and stands leaning on the fence with his hands and arms held up in such a manner to indicate a field goal.

As he leans on the fence below the field goal his son is kicking to, a man approaches Mr. Childers and asks if he can help him.  Mr. Childers replies with a great response.  He said, “Don’t touch me.  I’m standing for my son.”  This response gets me every time I see the movie.

This life is not about you and I.  It is about our Heavenly Father.  If we live our lives self centered we will not care to respond as the character of Mr. Childers responded.  It will be all about me.  When we engage in this life we find there is a battle going raging.  So, if we find ourselves standing at the so-called fence with hands raised to signal a touchdown and someone seeks to knock us off our base we need to be able to respond correctly.

Look at Ephesians 6:13-14, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.   Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”  Soldier of God we all need to have our armor on.  When we do this we can; in the power of God, resist the enemy.  I love the last phrase of verse 13 and the first word of verse 14, “… and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, …”  Remember, if you are not standing for God you will fall for anything.
