We Need To Be 4

As we watch the Church become increasingly more powerless and less prominent there is a reason.  Actually, there are multiple reasons that we do not have time to discuss even in an arena such as this.

Yesterday we took note that Jesus challenged us to be an example to others.  I think of this as a picture.  It causes me to think of a copy of something that I can look at and copy.  Today I want to go a little deeper.

We need to be an ensample.  Look at Philippians 3:17, “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”  The word “ensample” means a die, a stamp or scar.

You see, an ensample is different from an example.  An example is a pattern to look at and copy; but, an ensample goes deeper.  There is an impression made like a scar.  In other words we need to be having a deep impact on people.

If someone allows you to have influence on them you are a leader to them.  I wonder how many of us are effective leaders that are also ensamples?  Well, if you are an effective leader then you are an “ensample”.  You are making an impression on those you lead no matter how or why, you are.  This to me is a humbling truth and thought.

There have been many people in my life that have been examples; but, there have been too few that have been actual “ensamples”.  You and I need to quit trying to be an example like our favorite sports icon or whomever.  We need to be “ensamples” of Jesus Christ.

So, how are you doing?

Tattoos

Today and the past two days have been dedicated to something only my Law Enforcement friends will understand.  “S.M.T.”  This is an abbreviation for “Scars, Marks and Tattoos”.  It was something that we were required to obtain for a report on a missing or runaway person, etc…  I know my humor is a lot different.  I hope you can bear with it.

As you look around you see a lot of people that have been “inked”.  I cannot say that I like it.  I have a tattoo and I can honestly say that I despise it.  I cannot find strong enough adjectives to describe how much I hate it.  I got it to spite someone in my life at the time (no it was not my parents).  If I were a rich man I would pay the money and have it removed by laser.  Even though that scares the stuffing out of me, I would do it to get rid of this enormous mistake.

The Word of God tells us inLeviticus 19:28, “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”  I can hear some of you; my readers, saying this is Old Testament.  Yes, it is.  I believe that the entire Word of God is for our education.  In other words I believe that this is applicable today as it was back then.  Yes, I am guilty of it myself.  All I can do now is ask for forgiveness for breaking a clear command of Scripture and know that I have received forgiveness (I John 1:9).

As we saw yesterday in Galatians 6:17, “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.”  “marks” – 4742.  stigma,  stig’-mah   from a primary stizo (to “stick”, i.e. prick); a mark incised or punched (for recognition of ownership), i.e. (figuratively) scar of service :- marks.  I think this is a New Testament warning against it also.  I hope you do not think I am condemning you if you have them and like them and even have plans to get more.  That; my friends, is between you and our Father.  You must take it up with Him.  I am showing you what I believe is taught in the Scriptures and how you respond is up to you.  Please know that I love you and that is why I do my best to tell you the truth from the Bible.  I tell you in love no matter what you think or feel.  I am motivated by love.

So, how are you doing?
