River Otter

The other day I watched a kid’s television show.  It was all about animals.  This episode was about river otters in particular.  They are amazing creatures.  They have webbed feet to swim with.  They use their “fingers” to feel around to find food.  They use their whiskers to do the same thing as they are very sensitive.  They hunt in packs.  It is interesting to see how they work together.

The Church could take notice of this and follow their example.  They worked seamlessly together pushing fish toward one another so they could each feast.

The sad part is our enemy, the devil has it down to a science.  He runs Christians around like a bull with a ring in his nose.  The Word of God exhorts us in I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”  Look out!  Here he comes.

As we watched Dr. Charles Stanley the other night I was in awe of his photography to say the least.  He is an amazing artist!  I was equally blessed by the wisdom he shared from his time in Africa.

Dr. Stanley shared what he saw one day on his trip.  He watched a mother cheetah was training a couple youngsters.  They had gotten a young gazelle separated from it’s mother.  They were running the young gazelle back and forth in sport wearing it down.  Suddenly the mother cheetah made some kind of noise and her youngsters ended the pursuit and the young gazelle became their next meal.  All the while the mother gazelle watched from a safe distance while this all played out in front of her.

Yes, I know this is life.  I am not bothered by it one bet.  I; like Dr. Stanley, want to take some wisdom from this real life event.  There is real truth to be found here.  For one thing we must be careful when we get separated because the enemy will have a greater chance of taking us.  Look at Psalm 7:2, “Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.”  Yes, this is the goal of the enemy of your soul.  He wants to separate you from the people that make up the Church because you are more vulnerable that way.  There are a vast amount of truths here that time will not permit.  Take some time and ponder this.

Hunting

Growing up I loved to “hunt”.  The problem is that I had no idea how to hunt and nobody every taught me how to hunt.  Needless to say, my hunting skills are nonexistent to say the least. I still remember the first time I actually killed something.  I was “rabbit hunting” on my aunt and uncle’s farm.  As I walked along the fence through the brush and the leftover corn stalks I scared up rabbit after rabbit.  To no avail though because they all just ran away.  I would not recommend hunting rabbit with buckshot.  I got so frustrated that I took a chance shot at a small bird. It dropped like a brick.  I ran to the house in tears.  No, this was not my last hunt.

As we go through life there are people that will single us out.  They make us their target.  We resemble that little bird sitting on a branch.  All of a sudden, “Bang!” and we have been shot from behind and did not see it.

God warns us that in life we will face this.  In Ephesians 6 He gives us the armor that we need.  He also warns us against one particular enemy in I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”  As we go through life we have a bullseye on our head.  If our enemy can take us out he will definitely will do it.  We have to live life carefully considering this.  We have to not live in fear; but, with discernment and wisdom from God.

My friend, I don’t care how nice of a person you are or how many friends you have.  You and I are marked if we are God’s children.  The enemy will hurt us or kill us because he knows that it touches the very heart of Almighty God, our Father when he hurts us.  We are hunted.

Hunting

A couple days ago I visited with a long time friend at his son’s high school graduation party.  It was a nice time with the shade and the great food.  As we walked through the yard we talked about a woodpecker that keeps tearing up the outside of his house.

Our conversation turned to a nest of hawks that I had photographed when his daughter graduated.  He said that he believed that they died in the nest over the winter and that the parents had not returned.  This is so sad.  I had looked forward to photographing them.  I guess I will have to try to catch the nuisance woodpecker.

As my friend and I talked I thought about those hawks.  The parents were constantly in and out of the nest with food for the babies.  It was really an experience to watch.  I thought how the parents hunted to provide for those babies.

Yet, Job tells us that God hunts us (He knows full well where we are because He is all-knowing.) or pursues us.  God loves you and I so much that he “hunts” us. This to me is kind of a country term.  Where have you been, ’cause I been huntin’ you?

God will go anywhere to hunt down and rescue those who need to be rescued.  Have you been rescued or are you still dead in the nest?  Run to Jesus who will save you.  He loves you supremely!
