Today’s reading: Genesis 1, 2, 3; Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, 121; Proverbs 1

What will you give Jesus for Christmas?

The thought came to me the other day during the Christmas rush, “What would you give Jesus for Christmas?” I was reading Matthew 2:11, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” This caused me to think.

If I were to give Jesus something for Christmas, what would it be? The gifts that were given to Christ have significant meaning in and of themselves. The gold represents His role as the King of kings. One day Christ will return to this earth and rule with a rod of iron and He will be the King of kings.

The frankincense tells of His being our Priest. Frankincense was a spice used in the temple in offerings. When burnt the spices gave off a pleasant odor. This is like the prayers of born again believers of today and of all ages. Our prayers go up to heaven and are a sweet smell in the nostrils of God like the odors coming from the temple and tabernacle.

The myrrh tells of Jesus being the Prophet. Myrrh is a burial spice and it speaks of His ministry as a prophet. The prophet is God’s messenger to the people of the world. He tells all who will hear of the salvation found in Jesus Christ.

These were the original gifts given to Jesus by those early worshipers. If you and I were to give Him gifts today what would they be? How about giving yourself to Him? If you have never received Christ as your Saviour you can do it now. All you have to do is pray a prayer like this (and mean it with all of your heart): “Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and I need a Saviour. Right now I turn from my sin and accept you as my Lord and Saviour. I believe that you died and rose again the third day. Thank You for saving me.

If you prayed that prayer and meant it with all of your heart then Jesus will save you and when you die you will go to heaven. For further information about the Christian life feel free to e-mail me and I will be glad to assist you.

If you are a born again, a child of God have you given yourself to Him? There is no time like the present.
