What Revival Is 1

What is revival?  If you asked one hundred people you would get a multitude of different answers.  In our Churches we pray for revival.  I really wonder if we even know what we are truly praying for.

As I continue this thought of revival I want to take the next few days and consider the thought of “What Revival Is”.

Today’s thought is that revival is God having mercy on us.  Look at Psalm 51:1, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.”  The Word Web dictionary describes revival as 1.) Bringing again into activity and prominence.  2.) An evangelistic meeting intended to reawaken interest in religion.”

We all know that the Church needs revival.  We need to get back to some things.  We need to get back to the Word of God.  We should have a structured time of reading the Bible everyday.  This is God’s Word to us and we need to put it into our heart.  Our attitude toward the Word of God will determine our readiness for revival.  A person who will not read the Bible is not giving the Holy Spirit of the Living God anything to work with.  He takes the Word of God and ministers it to our heart.

Revival starts with God having mercy on us.  When we are people of the Word then we are convicted of our sin by the Holy Spirit using the Word and then we have the mercy of God to withhold right judgement.  If it were not for the mercy of God we would all be in hell.  This does not mean that we will not suffer the consequences of our sin.  God extends His mercy to us because He loves us supremely.

Thank God for His mercy in sending revival to those who will meet his conditions.  He is willing to send revival; but, far too many of us are not willing to receive it.

So, how are you doing?
