Pray For One Hour 11

Matthew 26:40-41, “And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

XI. Pray for one hour – Listening:  Receive spiritual instruction.  Ecclesiasates 5:2, “Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God:  for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth:  therefore let thy words be few.”

I have noticed a trend in so-called Christianity.  I hear people praying and telling God what to do.  Really?  What gives you and I the right to tell Holy God what to do?  Nothing!  What we need to be doing is keep our mouth shut and our ears tuned into Him.  This is called listening.  It is a lost art today.  I know I am guilty of not listening.  We hear someone tell something and we immediately want to tell them how to fix it.  In the right place there is nothing wrong with this.  When it comes to time with God it is wrong.  We need to be listening for God to give us His orders.   He is our Commander in Chief.  He is our King of kings and LORD of lords.  We take orders from Him.  We need to be silent before Him and listen for Him to speak to us.

Are You Drifting? 3

Hebrews 2:1, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”

The next truth about drifting should scare the stuffing out of us all.  Here it is.  By the time you hear the waterfalls it is too late. How many times have you watched some movie and someone is drifting along and then you hear the sound of the falls.  I had the pleasure of going to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at the beginning of the month.  We photographed many beautiful places.  The one place I remember the most was the Taquahmanan falls.  I took a video of the falls.  The water was cascading and unbelievable gallons per hour.  The thing I remember the most is the sound of those falls.  It sounded even more majestic and powerful then they truly were.  Many people were captivated by them.

In a tourist situation the sound of the falls is a beautiful and relaxing sound.  When you are in a boat on the water the sound is far different.  As I write this my heart sinks just thinking about it.  Life has seen many casualties because they drifted and when they heard the sound of the falls it was too late.

How To Hear From The Father 5

Today will be the last installment in our series on “How To Hear From The Father”.  I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed sharing it.  There is on last thing that will help us hear the Father.

We need to always be growing in the grace of God.  As we grow we will be better able to hear and discern the voice of our Father.  Look at II Peter 3:18, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”  You must notice that this is not a suggestion.  It is a command to all of us.

As we grow we will become more acutely aware of our Father’s voice.  This will make it easier to hear Him when He calls us.  We need to be able to know with our eyes closed so to speak when He speaks to us.   Here is a big one.  Are you listening for Him and to Him?

So, how are you doing?
