Psalm 1 Wisdom – 3

I have some good friends that live in California.  They talk a lot about the water shortage out there.  It is a real problem.  The politicians are enacting laws and ordinances that are so far out to try to combat the problem that it is almost unbelievable.  I just shake my head and say, “It’s California.”

As I was contemplating this series I read Psalm 1:3 which caused me to think about my friends and their water woes.  Let’s take a look at the next bit of wisdom from Psalm 1.

A Watered Life – vs. 3, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  So, if we follow the counsel in the first two verses in this chapter then we see the results.

First of all we see, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water;”.  Trees that are planted by rivers can send their roots to that water and get all they need to grow and flourish.  It is the same for your and I.  If we seek to grow and get our “roots” planted deep into the Word of God then we will begin to grow.  We have seen that over the past couple days.

Secondly, we see, “that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;”.  This is what God wants from you and I.  He wants us to bear fruit.  This can be souls or it can be good works.  Too many people get into the ditch on this issue.  They think that souls are fruit and they don’t think of the good things we do as fruit.  When we take steps of faith it is the fruit of our walk with God.  We become stronger in our faith as we spend time with God in prayer and His Word.  Then we begin to bare more fruit.

Thirdly, we see, “his leaf also shall not wither; “.  What happens when water is scarce?  We see leaves and flowers begin to wilt.  If they receive water then they will thrive.  So, a Christian who is planted by the river with his roots running into that water will not worry about leaves that whither.  They will not dry up and blow away.

Fourthly, we see, “and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”  If you and I want to accomplish something for God then we must get planted, rooted and drawing “water” from our Saviour.  It is that simple.  Far too many Christians are just wandering around aimlessly through life.  They could be living that abundant life that the LORD has for them; but, they just will not surrender to Him.

So, how are you doing?
