Being Much More Precious

I Peter 1:7, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”

Yesterday we celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday.  I am sure there were many people who were and are thankful for deliverance from trials.  I know that my first instinct is to pray for deliverance from the trials.

Maybe I have the wrong attitude about these trials.  What?  Yes, maybe I have the wrong idea about the trials that come to my life.  I know, you think the cheese has slipped off my cracker now.

Think about our passage of Scripture today.  It says in I Peter 1:7, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”.  You see God is not some big ogre in Heaven waiting to smash us with His fist.  He is our loving Father and He wants the best for each one of us.  He wants us to produce gold.  the way that we do this is when trials of fire come into our lives.  Believe me, I don’t like them anymore than you do; but, they do serve a purpose.  That purpose is to purify you and I along with purifying our works.

It is much like the day that our Pastor at the time responded to my, “Why me?” with, “Why not you?”.  Think about that one for a while.

The ultimate purpose in all of this is like that of I Peter 1:15-16, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”  God is transforming you and I into His image.  He uses trials as a major part of that transforming process.  It hurts like fire sometimes; but, it is for our good and His glory.  Praise God!

So, how are you doing?
