Thank God He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away

A dear friend gave us a copy of a CD by Jim Brady  titled “Jim Brady Singing The Hits”.  I love it.  There are so many good songs on this CD.  Jim does a wonderful job singing them and really giving them life for the listener.  One of my favorites is “Until Then” and Jim does a slam dunk job on that.

The song that has really hit home for me is the song “He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away”.  As I listened while driving down the road I really began to hear the words and the truth of the song.  We have probably heard that He is the Potter and we are the clay.

God has a plan for our lives.  He knows the end from the beginning.  He also has an expectation for us.  He expects us to be saved.  He expects us to put our faith and trust in Him.  This really came home for me when I read Jeremiah 18:4, “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”

Notice it was the clay that was marred.  The clay was in the hand of the potter.  The potter did not have any flaws.  He being perfect, could have given up on me and you immediately; but, He didn’t.  I love the last line of the verse as it says, “… so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”  He has the power to make us what we were intended to be prior to the fall of the first Adam.  The second Adam came to redeem fallen man from sin and make him a new creation.  “Thank God He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away”!

Grace and Mercy

Joshua 2:1, “And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.”

Recently I attended a camp meeting at a local Church.  One of my favorite Preachers was there.  The format was to have my friend preach one evening while another family provided the music.  Then the next night my friend would do the music and the other Brother would preach.  It was a great meeting.  I really enjoyed meeting Brother Ron Hoy.  His a big man with a big voice.  He has written some song and I was privileged to receive a copy of their CD’s.

The first song I listened to was “Grace and Mercy”.  It is an awesome song about the two spies coming to Rahab’s house.  This song is so full of truth.  I listen to it all the time and I cannot help shedding tears every time.

Brother Hoy brings out some things in his song that are just wonderful.  I love the picture he paints of salvation in the song.  The two spies are represented by grace and mercy.  If it were not for God’s grace and mercy we would be forever lost.  Then the talks about the scarlet thread (vs. 18).  This causes me to think about the scarlet thread of the blood of Jesus that is all throughout the Word of God.

If it were not for Jesus’ finished work on Calvary we would have no hope.  All because of Jesus we can have mercy and grace extended to us and we can be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Have you been visited by the grace and mercy of God?  If you have not then let me take the Bible and show you how you can be saved.

All Because Of Another 2

I truly enjoyed writing yesterday’s post.  It was great to stroll down memory lane.  As I was thinking about the topic of “All Because of Another” I remembered a story that was hared at a friend’s memorial service.

My friend has been drinking and was involved in an automobile accident.  He was covered in blood that was not his.  He took his Bible and went to see the Pastor and ended up trusting Jesus Christ as his Saviour.  Praise the LORD!  This man was a dear friend and brother in Christ.

As I began to think about this I just kept thinking about him being covered in blood that was not his.  I am sure you see where I am going.  My mind raced to Jesus’ crucifixion.  As we have recently come through the Resurrection season I could not help but be reminded of some things.

You see, my friend came to the place where he realized what he was doing was not working.  He went a got help.  Far too many people just keep going on through life struggling and fighting against God.  This is futile and will end in eternal judgement.

What you and I need is to be covered in the blood of Jesus and have our sin washed away.  I hope you will do this before it is eternally too late.

So, how are you doing?

April Fools

Well, today is the first day of April and commonly known as “April Fools Day”.  People will say and do all kind of outlandish things to fool others.  I guess they think there is some kind of fun involved in this practice.  I am trying to stay away from it because of the words of Psalm 14:1, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”  This sheds a different light on things.

People all around us today seek to deny the existence of God.  The problem for them is that they might deny Him with their mouth; but, they cannot erase His eternal existence.  You can say all you want that I do not wear contacts and glasses; but, the truth is that I do wear both and sometimes at the same time.

The sad thing is that the louder our unregenerate world screams, “No God!” the more loudly they proclaim their own foolishness.  So, today do you find yourself sitting in the seat of the denying fool or do you believe?  I do not mean do you believe that God exists.  I mean do you believe in Him to the point that you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour?  It is not too late to do that now.  Please contact me and let me show you how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We Need To Be 2

Someone has said, “Thank God I am not what I used to be.  Thank God I am not what I am going to be.”  So many people are just slaves to so many different things.  I think it was Martin Luther who said, “Free at last.  Free at last.  Thank God Almighty I am free at last.”

We come in contact with people every day that are bound by sin.  Do I or do you take the time and make the effort to do anything at all about it?  Only you and I can answer for ourselves.  God knows, so we might as well be honest with ourselves.

The Apostle Paul exhorts us in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”  When we do not reach out to others and share the gospel with them it is show us that we are ashamed.  Don’t be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I still remember a time I had an opportunity to witness to someone and did not.  God forgive me!  You see, the thing is that God wants us to spread the news of salvation.  This leads me to next thing we need to be.

We need to be an evangelist.  In God’s word an evangelist is described as a preacher of the gospel.  Not every man, woman, boy or girl is called to be a Pastor.  It seems to me that we are all called to be an evangelist.  I do not mean that we all book evangelistic meetings in Churches.

What I am talking about is that we take every possible opportunity to share the gospel with others.  The gospel is the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Fewer and fewer people will listen and hear the gospel.  They don’t what to be told they are sinners and that they (of all people) need a Saviour.  Sadly, it is true though.  We need to share the truth with others.

We must tell them they are sinners; but, there is a Saviour waiting to forgive their sin and make them His child if they will turn from their sin and receive Him as their Saviour.  It is so simple that people cannot “get it”.  Too many people want to “do” for their salvation; but, Jesus has “done” what needs to be in order for us all to be saved.  Are you?

Everyone Needs 3 Homes

I wish someone could tell me what it is about home.  I mean really.  The other day I was gone all day doing important ministry tasks.  When I got home the first thing I did was eat.  The second thing I did was sit down in my chair and put my feet up.  I thought to myself, “Home”.

According to Dr. Adrian Rogers there are three homes that a person should be concerned with.  Let’s take a look at them.

I. A Family Home – Genesis 2:23-24, “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

How is your family?  You say it is fine; but, what would God say about your family.  We need fathers who will lead their homes as a servant leader and not a tyrant.  We need mothers who will be submissive to God and their husbands.  I know this is a word that is unpopular; but, it is the truth.  We need children that are trained in the ways of our Holy God to love Him.

II. A Church Home – Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

The Church is our support group so to speak.  It is a hospital for the spiritually wounded.  It is a birthing center for new Christians.  It is a spiritual buffet for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

III.  A Heavenly Home – John 14:2-3, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

There is only one way to be heir to a Heavenly home.  You and I must know Jesus Christ as our Saviour.  We must realize that we have sinned against God and we must confess our sin to Him calling upon Him in prayer.  If we are sorry for our sin and not just sorry we got caught we can be saved.  We just turn from our sin to trust Jesus Christ as our Saviour.  The Bible tells us in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  It is simple; but, you must do it for yourself.

So, how are you doing?

A Gift From God 3

I am sure that while people watched the Super Bowl the other evening there was at least one banner containing John 3:16.  There usually is at major sporting events.  I am thankful for someone who would do this.  They are doing what they can to get the message out.

I cannot think of any greater gift that God the Father could have given to fallen man.  We have a problem.  It is a sin problem.  No matter how good we think we are.  No matter how intellectual we think we are.  No matter what, we cannot ensure that we will spend eternity based upon any thing we can do ourselves.

The words of John 3:16 are some of the most quoted words of all Scripture.  They rank up there with Psalm 23 and “judge not that you be not judged”.

Look at John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  You want to talk about “A Gift From God”.  There it is.  There is the greatest Gift ever given in all of time and eternity.  Jesus humbled Himself and became a man; in flesh, and lived so that you and I can live for eternity with Him.  All we must do is be sorry for our sin and ask Him for forgiveness.  It is so simple that people cannot “get it”.  If you trust Him today then Heaven will be your eternal home.

So, how are you doing?

Psalm 1 Wisdom – 6

Today will be our last installment of “Psalm 1 Wisdom”.  As I was reading this last verse I could not help but think of so many people that live a life of pain and suffering.  My last thought is as follows.

A Woeful Life – vs. 6, “For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”  The word woeful means affected by or full of grief or woe, of very poor quality or condition.

Far too many people are living woeful lives today.  They seem to have nothing to live for.  They place their trust in things of this earth and they are disappointed almost constantly.  I cannot imagine if I thought that you just lived like a dog and died.  That was it.  The end.  This would be “A Woeful Life” for sure.

Some see our God as a big meanie waiting to crush them with the blow of His almighty fist.  This is not true.  God is allowing this into their lives because He loves them.  He allows it to drive them to Himself.  The problem is that we get it all mixed up and run from Him.  We need to run to the LORD!

Today; my dear reader, are you running from God?  Maybe you see your life as “A Woeful Life”.  Here is the thing.  God will not make everything better if you trust Him today.  He will make you better equipped to face the storms and trials of life.

Preparation

The other evening as I was looking over social media I came across a beautiful picture from a cemetery taken by my friend Rad Drew (www.RadDrewPhotography.com).  The picture is of a grave from circa 1875 and it has this quote with it.

Remember reader as you pass by,
As you are now so once was I.
As I am now so you will be.
Prepare for death and follow me.

— Unknown author from a gravestone, circa 1875.

There is a lot of Biblical counsel in that little poem.  The truth remains that 1 out of 1 will die.  The only exception will be if Jesus returns and takes His children to Heaven.

I want to ask you a question.  Are you prepared to step out into eternity?  Have you made preparation?

If you have not made preparation you need to do that.  You must realize that you are a sinner.  Romans 3:23 tells us that we are all sinners.  Because we are sinners we are separated from God.  Romans 6:23 tells us, “the wages of sin is death;”  This death will be eternal separation from God.  That is the bad news.  The good news is in the second part of that verse in Romans 6:23, “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD.”  All a person has to do is to acknowledge to God that they are a sinner and need a Saviour.  We must confess that to God calling upon Him in prayer.  We must be sorry for our sin and tell Him that.  Then when we acknowledge that and tell Him that and ask Him to save us, He will.

If you would like to know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, please contact me as I would love to show you how.

Herod

We have seen in the Scriptures how God uses many different things, circumstances and even the unbeliever to work out His plan.  I mean, He used a donkey to speak to Baalim.  I am glad that it has not been recorded in Scripture some of my less than positive moments in life.

God even used an heathen king to bring about His plan.  It all started when Herod received word of a King to be born in Bethlehem.  Look at Matthew 2:3, “When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.”  This word “troubled” means to stir or agitate.  Herod was an unhappy camper.  He was the sitting king of that day and he would have nobody else dethrone him if at all possible.  I don’t know too many rulers that want to be dethroned.  It usually means death to the sitting king.

In this instance it would have meant death too.  Think about it.  Lets go a little deep here.  If Herod came face to face with King Jesus then Herod would have to die.  He would have to be just like you and I.  He must die to self.  He must crucify the old man.  Even worse, he would have to bow the knee to Jesus and he was not willing to do that.  This prideful dictator would bow to nobody.

Okay; friend, it is your turn.  Will you humbly bow before Jesus and confess you are a sinner and you need a Saviour?  It is up to you.  The truth is that you can bow before King Jesus today and trust Him as your Saviour or you can bow before Him as your Judge.  The choice is yours to make.
