Three To Make Ready

As I look around it seems to me that service is a lost art today.  Most everyone wants to be waited upon and almost nobody wants to wait on anyone else.  This is sad; but, it has crept into the Church too.  I mean, Jesus Himself put on a towel and washed dirty feet.  Gross!  Why would the King of kings and LORD of lords do such a thing?  He was setting an example for those then, us now and those in the future.  This was the right thing to do.  When someone came to your house they probably walked and with sandals their feet would get extremely dirty.  It was a custom to have water and towels for these dirty feet to be cleaned before entry into the home.

This example of service was also seen in Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome.  They knew of Jesus death and they went to the tomb with burial spices and oil to anoint Jesus.  This was just the right thing to do.  However, Jesus’ death and burial were different.  He only intended to use the grave for a short time and then leave for another to use.

Out of love and respect for Jesus these three women came to prepare Jesus’ mortal body.  Look at Mark 16:1, “And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.”

What they found was something far different.  Jesus was gone.  He was alive and risen from the dead.  He had conquered death, hell and the grave.  Amen!  If you will trust Him today you can have eternal salvation and the fear of death can leave you forever.

So, how are you doing?
