See You At The House

While watching one of the Gaither Gospel videos on Heaven one man spoke of his father.  I cannot at this writing recall either name.  He told of how his father would extend salutations to people by saying, “See you at the House.”  His meaning was that he would see that person in Heaven at the end of life.

Well, within the past few short days life has seen two sweet souls depart for Heaven.  One of those dear loved ones is the daughter of Dr. Michael Johnston.  Dr. Mike posted the following on his facebook page, “This note is for all my friends who are not aware, our precious 40 year old daughter Tara lost her 20 year struggle with diabetes and went to be with Jesus September 15, 2014. ”  Please pray for this family.

Then yesterday I received a phone call telling of the home going of Rev. Ed Phillips.  He formerly Pastored the Harmony Baptist Church in Avon, IN before my friend Dr. Jon Lillly took the Pastorate.  Please pray for the Phillips family.  Brother Phillips touched many lives that I call friends  and some I call family.  He will be deeply missed.

Here is a thought for today.  If you came to the end of your life today would you spend eternity in Heaven or hell?  Don’t be too quick to answer.  I suggest you consult with Jesus Christ and see if your name is written in His book.

So, how are you doing?

Tragedy

I am sure many of you; my readers, have seen the news footage of the sprint car race in New York where Kevin Ward Jr. was tragically killed.  Tony Stewart was operating the car that hit Ward Jr., thus killing him.  I don’t care what your racing preferences are, this is a tragic event.  I cannot imagine the grief and guilt that Mr. Stewart will carry, quite possibly for the rest of his life.

As tragic as this event is, there is another even that is equally as tragic and possibly more so.  Look at Ezekiel 33:4, “Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.”  What this passage of Scripture is talking about is the sounding of a trumpet as a warning and the person hearing the trumpet not heeding it’s warning.  The Scriptures are telling us that if we refuse to hear the warnings and heed the warnings that our own blood will be upon our own hands.  In other words, we will be responsible for ourselves.

On the other side of that issue, if we hear the trumpet sound a warning and we fail to warn others then their blood is on our hands.  We are responsible for their death.  Let me take this a little further.  The Word of God has sounded the warning that Jesus is coming soon.  The Word of God has shown us that we are responsible to share the gospel with those around us.  Let me ask you, “Are you being the biblical ‘watchman’ that God has called you to be?”  Sobering thought I know.  I would say that most of us just let life slip on by us along with opportunities that God has orchestrated for us to share the gospel with others.  Now, their blood is on our hands.

So, how are you doing?

The Smoke of a Furnace

This is a sad scene.  Lot and his family have literally been ushered out of Sodom by the angels that God sent to deliver them thanks to Abraham’s intercession.  As they are leaving; against God’s command, Lot’s wife looks back and she becomes a pillar of salt.  There are some situations in life that do not merit looking back upon.  They just drag us down and make things worse.  We do not want our lives to be any more complicated.  We need to simplify things.

Sometimes you look back on life and it is too late.  Many of you; my readers, like me have at different times looked at your lives and all you saw was smoke rising and loved one’s turned to salt.  Look at Genesis 19:28, “And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.”

Not only did Lot lose his wife to disobedience; but, his sons in law did not even make the journey.  His influence over them was nonexistent.  His life had no bearing on them.  They did not love his God.  In every area of Lot’s life smoke was rising both figuratively and literally.

Don’t lose hope!  I know it is difficult to look out over the ashes of life with the smoke rising from them.  We have to keep our focus on Jesus Christ and continue to follow Him no matter and quit looking back.
