Safari Wisdom 3

Dr. Stanley in his DVD presentation that we watched the other evening pointed out that a lion has no predator.  He fears no one.  Can you imagine?  I surely cannot.  There are things that I am deathly afraid of and I don’t like to admit it.

A lion sleeps twenty (20) hours per day.  The rest of the day they are hunting or laying around after eating what they have killed in their hunt.  They will take their time and stalk a herd until they find something they can alienate from the rest of the herd.  Then they have it.  Once separated it is over.  The lion moved in for the kill and it is meal time.

I have seen television shows where a lion will jump on the back of elephants and begin to bite their neck to kill them for food.  That is an ambitious undertaking.  It just shows the fearlessness of these animals.  They are beautiful; but, dangerous.  Look at the Bible in Proverbs 30:30, “A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;”  There we have God’s commentary on the matter.  We need to be a lion for Jesus and not let the lion of a devil chase us around.

To Tell The Truth

While looking at social media yesterday I came across a site that had a slideshow of notes from children that were straight to the point.  I am sharing one of these here:

“Dear Uncle Bryan,

I hope you have a good birthday.  I love you uncle Bryan.  How are you?  Have you Hird of saten?  he makes you do bad thagings.

Love,

Rebekkah”

You can see more in a slide show here.

This young lady shared more spiritual truth in her note than some so-called Churches share in a week.  I think you and I can take some lessons from this dear heart.  We need to be sharing the truth with others.  We might not want to make it so blunt; but, there are times for that too.

The truth is that we have an enemy he seeks to destroy us.  He will use anything he possibly can to do his dirty work.  We must be prepared to stand against him in the power of Christ.

Look at I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”.  I am told that this lion is an old lion that lays in wait in the high grass waiting for prey to get close.  He then roars and scares the prey and the younger, more able lions make the attack.  This should sound familiar.  Our enemy uses the same tactics.  You and I need to heed the admonition of the Scriptures and “Be sober, be vigilant;”.  Your life could depend upon it.

So, how are you doing?

Temptation

We are all familiar with I Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”  A Preacher friend of mine preached on this subject recently.  He said that this “roaring lion” is an old lion.  He lays hidden in the brush and waits for prey that he can no longer chase come to him.  Then he roars and scares them into the pack of younger lions who make the kill.

This give a little insight into our battle against temptation.  Remember it is not a sin to be tempted.  It is a sin when we yield to that temptation.  Remember Jesus Himself was tempted; but, He never sinned.  He has set an example for you and I to follow in the area of temptation.  Remember that He is our High Priest and He knows first hand what we experience.  When He tells us that we can win over temptation He means it.  When the devil roars at you give him the Word of God back.  Yes, quote Scripture!

So, how are you doing?

Luke 4:13, “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.”
