The Unknown Father 8

This father lived everyday with the fear that his son would be thrown into the fire, the sea or some other place that would be hazardous to his health.  Think about the stress this man and his family faced.  I cannot imagine how this boy felt either.  He was unable to control his own body at times.  It would be a nightmare.

The father and the family came to the place that they saw the long awaited deliverance. Look at Mark 9:25, “When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.”

We all know that if Jesus says it that settles it.  There is no room for debate.  Jesus spoke and this boy was delivered.  He had endured so much.  This day Jesus showed up in his life and changed things for him.  His long awaited deliverance was now a reality.  It was here.

Dear friend, maybe you are struggling with some situation.  You might feel like you will drown if something miraculous does not happen.  Cry out to God.  He is a miracle working God and He is waiting to do something in your life.  He might not give you the miraculous deliverance you are seeking; but, He will give you what you need to live.  He will fill you with His grace to keep going on.  He will equip you.

He is more concerned with our character than our comfort.  He wants us to be conformed to the image of Jesus.  Part of that process is the unpleasant molding.  It hurts!  One day we can all rest assured that we will be delivered.  It might be the day that we are called home to Heaven.  As God’s children we can look forward to that.  Then all that we have suffered will seem like nothing as we stand before God.

Memorial Day 2015

Today is Memorial Day 2015.  This is the day set aside to honor the fallen men and women of our nation’s military.  I hope you take the time or have taken the time to honor these brave men and women who have paid for our freedom with their lives.

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day.  It was a time where the graves of Civil War soldiers were decorated.  It eventually came to be called Memorial Day and all soldiers that gave their lives were honored.

Our freedom was purchased by the blood of these men and women that answered the nation’s call.  My greatest regret in life is that I never served my country in the military.  If I had enlisted I would have been in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.  Needless to say I might not have been here to write this piece.  This is a sobering thought.

There is a popular saying going around and it goes, “If you can read thank a teacher.  If you can read in English thank a soldier.”  There is a lot of truth there.

Yet, even the American soldier cannot provide the freedom that we have in Christ.  He is the ultimate Freedom Giver.  When you come to put your faith and trust in Jesus then you have the ultimate freedom.  There is no earthly king that can provide that for you or I.  Only Jesus can give true freedom to all who want it and are willing to receive it.  All you must do is trust Him.  Put your faith and trust in Jesus today and rest in the truth that you can know that when you die you will spend eternity in Heaven.  John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Freedom

I was reading my e-mail the other day and I found a statement that jumped out at me.  It was written by someone that has great wisdom and walks closely with the LORD.  Look at his words:

“A man may commit a crime and be sentenced to prison. At the end of his term we may meet him on the street and because he is free, we know that he has paid the full penalty. Jesus Christ paid the full price of our sin before God that we might be free to live for His glory (Rom. 4:25; Rom. 6:4)”  These words are penned by none other than Dale A. Byers who just happens to be my second cousin.

I began to think about so many people that are caught up or bound in so many different things.  It might be money that motivates us to steal and rob others.  Maybe it is drugs and/or alcohol that causes us to live our life out of our own control.  There are countless situations that bring us into bondage.  Sometimes we can be in bondage to something or even someone and not even realize it.

The good news is that we can be free.  All we have to do is call upon the LORD in prayer and ask for forgiveness.  It is that simple.  Look at Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  To be saved is to be delivered.  We can be free.

No Differences

When you look around at various churches you see a lot of different stuff.  You have all kinds of different music styles.  There are many different styles of worship.  The list could go on and on.  Sometimes it is hard to find a Church where you feel comfortable and that you belong.  Finding that sense of “home” is difficult.

There is something that marks the Church today and it is sad.  There is a mentality that I can live the way I want to all week long because I am saved and then just ask for forgiveness.  This is sad.  It is also not a new idea.  This idea plagued Israel too.  Look at Jeremiah 7:9-10, “Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? ”  These people were going out and doing as they pleased and coming to worship God after committing abominations (something that made God want to vomit).  Not to mention they wanted to be blessed just like all the others.

I am sorry to inform you; but, we nor Israel can use our liberty to live any way we want to live.  The liberty we have been given is the liberty or freedom to live in such a way that pleases Almighty God.  Our will should line up with His will and then we can run in freedom and liberty.  The problem is that we want to do our own thing our own way.  This will not work in God’s economy.
