My Grandfather on my Dad’s side of the family was a carpenter among carpenters. There is one subdivision in our town that my Grandfather built until he could no longer do the work. I; on the other hand, cannot even drive a nail straight. I have heard numerous times, “I paid for all of that hammer.” Ha, Ha! Precious memories.
I was thinking about some of my own carpentry mistakes. Most of the time my mistake is in not following the pattern. I find myself getting in a hurry and instead of using the pattern I end up using a piece that I have cut out. Sometimes I end up using multiple pieces that I have already cut out.
You might not see the problem here. The problem is that when we stray away from the original pattern each generation; if you will, gets further and further from the original pattern. It even gets to the point that the end product is so far from the pattern that it cannot be used.
Look at I Timothy 1:16, “Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.” In other words we need to live a life that points people to Jesus. We need to get things out of our lives that repel people from Jesus. Maybe, you don’t care. If this is the case then you need to turn from your sin and forsake it. You need to get back to the original Pattern, Jesus.
So, how are you doing?
