Call

As I was reading my Bible I came across this verse again.  It is an often quoted passage.  I wonder if I really get the meaning of this.

As my family and I have been experiencing some really difficult trials the past couple weeks it has caused me to simply look at passages like this again with a little more intent look.

Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

As I thought about the first phrase “Call unto me;” I was reminded how most people really do not want a Saviour.  Far too many people today want a genie in a bottle.  Thy want a “personal diety” who will just show up when they need someone.  They want some super being that will be ready at their every beckon call.  It does not work that way.

The word “call” means we are accosting a person by calling out.  There is no time here to give up.  There are people and things that I have been praying for that have not been answered.  Some of these requests have been on my heart for many years.  We have to keep calling.

When we call out to God it means we keep going to Him and going to Him boldly asking.  It is not a one time request.  We keep going back and back until we get the request answered.

We will know it when God answers too.  The word “shew” means to front, to stand out boldly.  When God answers we will know it.  We had a very large situation in our lives and I prayed about it and God answered the request in such a way that I know for sure it was Him.

Too many so-called Christians do not see their prayers answered because of various reasons.  One that stands out to me is that they do not call upon God and ask Him.

So, how are you doing?

Consider Him 5

Today we will continue our series of post on “Consider Him”.  Today I want to look at the thought “Consider Him in His Calling”.  I have heard all of my life that a certain person has “missed their calling”.  It has even been said about me also.  Some think I have missed my calling to be a cook (I am no chef for sure).

Well, I can honestly say that I have not missed my calling to be a cook.  Back in 1990 there came a call in a Church service at the Dry Pond Regular Baptist Church in Ballard, WV.  When that calling came I went to the altar and surrendered.  It has not been easy, for sure.  I would not trade my calling to the ministry the Lord has entrusted to me for nothing.

What about you?  What has the Lord called you to do?  You might try to tell me that you have been called to nothing.  I know better.  We have all been called to something.  Our response to God’s call is vitally important.  When we hear the call we need to respond immediately.  Maybe you hear the words of Matthew 4:19, “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Why don’t we just get together and start walking down the path that we have been called to walk?  We have the promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us.  We have good and godly friends to help us along the way.  We have the Bible to guide and comfort us.  We have been given the Holy Spirit of the Living God to speak to us and minister the Word to us.  Let’s get on the road for Jesus, whatever that may mean.

So, how are you doing?

A Bridge to Monday 2

Let’s take a look at our next installment of “A Bridge to Monday”.  One thing that should motivate us greatly is the call of Jesus to each one of us.  We are called to be many things.

The man thing I would like to focus on today is our call to take the Gospel to the world.  Look at Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”  Truth be known this is a command more than a call.  Jesus has called us all to reach out to others and share with them the truth about salvation.  So many people are confused today and want to do things their own way and that will not work in God’s economy.

There is nothing more precious to God than the soul of a man.  Yet, we let countless people go by each day and never tell them about what Jesus has done for them.  People want what we have; Christian, and we need to share it with them.

So, how are you doing?
