Thank God He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away

A dear friend gave us a copy of a CD by Jim Brady  titled “Jim Brady Singing The Hits”.  I love it.  There are so many good songs on this CD.  Jim does a wonderful job singing them and really giving them life for the listener.  One of my favorites is “Until Then” and Jim does a slam dunk job on that.

The song that has really hit home for me is the song “He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away”.  As I listened while driving down the road I really began to hear the words and the truth of the song.  We have probably heard that He is the Potter and we are the clay.

God has a plan for our lives.  He knows the end from the beginning.  He also has an expectation for us.  He expects us to be saved.  He expects us to put our faith and trust in Him.  This really came home for me when I read Jeremiah 18:4, “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”

Notice it was the clay that was marred.  The clay was in the hand of the potter.  The potter did not have any flaws.  He being perfect, could have given up on me and you immediately; but, He didn’t.  I love the last line of the verse as it says, “… so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”  He has the power to make us what we were intended to be prior to the fall of the first Adam.  The second Adam came to redeem fallen man from sin and make him a new creation.  “Thank God He Didn’t Throw The Clay Away”!

Covered Head to Toe – Your Head

As you know I spent some time as a firefighter, working EMS and dispatching.  As a firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) is vital.  If you do not have it you will die.

Have you ever thought about the Christian having personal protective equipment also?  I did.  Today I want to start at the top with the head.  In the fire service we wear a helmet and nomex hood.  The hood is fire resistant and keeps your head and neck from catching fire.  Then there is the helmet.  This is a vital piece of equipment too.  It protects from falling objects like rafters and beams.

In the Christian life God has equipped us with a helmet also.  Look at Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation,…”  God knows that we are vulnerable in our head and mind.  The battle is often fought in the mind.  Our Loving God has given to us a helmet that He calls the “helmet of salvation”.

It is vital to know for sure that you are born again.  If you do not know for sure you are part of the family you will never take full advantage of the benefits of being in the family.

If you died today and God said, “Why should I let you into My Heaven?” what would you tell Him?  If you don’t know for sure that you will go to Heaven when you die please contact me.  I want you to know for sure.

So, how are you doing?

April Fools

Well, today is the first day of April and commonly known as “April Fools Day”.  People will say and do all kind of outlandish things to fool others.  I guess they think there is some kind of fun involved in this practice.  I am trying to stay away from it because of the words of Psalm 14:1, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”  This sheds a different light on things.

People all around us today seek to deny the existence of God.  The problem for them is that they might deny Him with their mouth; but, they cannot erase His eternal existence.  You can say all you want that I do not wear contacts and glasses; but, the truth is that I do wear both and sometimes at the same time.

The sad thing is that the louder our unregenerate world screams, “No God!” the more loudly they proclaim their own foolishness.  So, today do you find yourself sitting in the seat of the denying fool or do you believe?  I do not mean do you believe that God exists.  I mean do you believe in Him to the point that you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour?  It is not too late to do that now.  Please contact me and let me show you how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We Need To Be 2

Someone has said, “Thank God I am not what I used to be.  Thank God I am not what I am going to be.”  So many people are just slaves to so many different things.  I think it was Martin Luther who said, “Free at last.  Free at last.  Thank God Almighty I am free at last.”

We come in contact with people every day that are bound by sin.  Do I or do you take the time and make the effort to do anything at all about it?  Only you and I can answer for ourselves.  God knows, so we might as well be honest with ourselves.

The Apostle Paul exhorts us in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”  When we do not reach out to others and share the gospel with them it is show us that we are ashamed.  Don’t be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I still remember a time I had an opportunity to witness to someone and did not.  God forgive me!  You see, the thing is that God wants us to spread the news of salvation.  This leads me to next thing we need to be.

We need to be an evangelist.  In God’s word an evangelist is described as a preacher of the gospel.  Not every man, woman, boy or girl is called to be a Pastor.  It seems to me that we are all called to be an evangelist.  I do not mean that we all book evangelistic meetings in Churches.

What I am talking about is that we take every possible opportunity to share the gospel with others.  The gospel is the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Fewer and fewer people will listen and hear the gospel.  They don’t what to be told they are sinners and that they (of all people) need a Saviour.  Sadly, it is true though.  We need to share the truth with others.

We must tell them they are sinners; but, there is a Saviour waiting to forgive their sin and make them His child if they will turn from their sin and receive Him as their Saviour.  It is so simple that people cannot “get it”.  Too many people want to “do” for their salvation; but, Jesus has “done” what needs to be in order for us all to be saved.  Are you?

So, how are you doing?

The Gospel

Christians are always going around talking about “The Gospel”.  So, what is it?  Look at what Paul says in I Corinthians 15:1, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;”  The gospel is so important that the Apostle Paul does not want people he knows to be ignorant of it.  So he goes on to tell us what the gospel is.

First of all the gospel is the death of Jesus Christ.  Look at I Corinthians 15:3, “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;”  Sin demands payment.  Our sin demands a payment.  That payment must be perfect.  The only One who could die to pay that debt was Jesus Christ.  I love Paul’s words at the end of this verse where he says, “according to the scriptures;”.  He is telling us that we have God’s word on the truth of the gospel.  The world has seen religious leaders come and go; but, none were ever like Jesus Christ.  You can find the bones of those others; but, you will never find the remains of Jesus.  He died; but, that is only the first part of the gospel.  You must believe that Jesus died; and, that He died for you and your sin.

Secondly the gospel is the burial of Jesus Christ.  Look at I Corinthians 15:4, “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”  Jesus literally died and was buried.  He was buried in a borrowed tomb.  All this was done according to the Word of God.  We could say that he only borrowed a tomb because He would only need it for three days.  Again, you must believe that Jesus was buried on your behalf.  He died as the Sinless Sacrifice for your and my sin.  Because He died, He was buried.

Thirdly the gospel is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Again, look at I Corinthians 15:4, “And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”.  The phrase “rose again” means to awaken from death.  Again, He did not stay in the grave.  He got up (resurrected); thus, conquering death, hell and the grave.  It is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the Word of God.  Here is the thing.  You have now been shown the gospel.  It is up to you what you do with it.  You can either put your faith and trust in Jesus for salvation or you can once again reject Him.  If you do not trust Christ as your Saviour then you sentence yourself to eternity in hell.  The choice is your’s to make.

So, how are you doing?

Connected

In the Veggie Tales episode “Rumor Weed” there is a spot where Larry Boy is in the sewer and is speaking to one of the rumor weeds.  She speaks to him and he remembers something.  He says to her, “That’s right, you’re all connected.”

These thoughts came to me after struggling with connecting electronic devices earlier.  Mine are not connected yet.  Anyway.

We all need to be connected.  Far too many people are running around doing their own thing their own way.  This does not work.  In the fire service it is known as freelancing.  This gets firefighters killed.  This practice spiritually is deeply dangerous too.

We need to get plugged in to Jesus.  Look at John 1:11-12, “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

Put your faith and trust in Jesus today before it is eternally too late.

Opportunity

During a few years of serving the LORD in the soul-winning ministry at the fairs I had many experiences.  So many stand out as bad and some as good.

People go about their daily lives seemingly without a care or at least that is what they portray.  I would suppose that most of the people we pass on a daily basis are really wanting to just explode on the inside.  We all face pressure from the inside and out.  The problem is that we try to mask this pressure and try to live like every thing is just peachy.  Eventually it will catch up to a person.  Sometimes it manifests as mental problems.  Sometimes is manifests as health problems.  Rest assured it will manifest in some way or another some day. It is like an older lady said of old age, “It is like being pregnant.  It is going to show on you some day.”  Well…

So many people pass up the opportunity to put their trust in Jesus Christ.  They do not realize the offer they are walking away from.  One day they will look back and wish they had taken the opportunity.  Some will live for eternity in regret for this.

The people that break my heart the most are those that think they have it all together.  They think they have it all figured out.  They believe that if they do enough good that the scales will tip their way in the end.  I have sad news for those that think this way.  Wrong!  When they stand before God they will be eternally sorry.  Take a look at the scene in the Bible.  Read Matthew 25:41, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

Notice this judgement was prepared for “the devil and his angels”.  God never intended for man to spend eternity in hell.  Man sets his destiny in hell when he resists and rejects God’s loving plea for salvation.  God sends no man to hell.  Man sends himself there by his refusal to trust Jesus Christ for salvation.

The Key

I was watching a show the other night where the young Amber Nelon Thompson (granddaughter of the late Rex Nelon) was being interviewed between her songs.  She told of the night she trusted Christ as her Saviour.  She tells of how she struggled with pride in thinking that everyone would think she was already saved; but, she finally gave in to the Holy Spirit and walked forward and trusted Jesus Christ as her Saviour.  She tells that her Youth Pastor told her that she could be the key to unlock other people.  She said that when she got up from praying that there were about twelve (12) other teens at the altar receiving Jesus Christ as their Saviour too.  How awesome.  The phrase her Youth Pastor spoke to her has stuck with me.  “You could be the key to unlock other people.”  Wow!

Then I began to think about Acts 8:34-35, “And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?  Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”  The sad part of this passage of Scripture is that some who say they love and believe the Bible will tell you that part of Acts 8 was added later which changes the meaning to support salvation through baptism.  Wrong!  God preserved His Word just the way He wants it and we need to keep our dirty hands off of it in such a manner.  We can preach It, read It and head It; but, we must quit trying to rewrite the precious Word of God.

Okay, let’s get personal now.  What decision have you been postponing because you don’t want others to think negatively about you?  Do you need to be saved?  Whatever it is you need to deal with it immediately!  Especially, if you need to trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour please write to me and let me help you make the greatest decision you could ever make.

So, how are you doing?

Restored

Well, I am finally back online!  we will see how long this time before I blow up my machine.  Ha, Ha!  I hope never.  This has been a nightmare for the guy who does my computer work.  I am thankful for someone that I can trust to work on these sensitive things and not worry about what he is looking at inside that is private.

As I was thinking about this whole process I thought about people.  The computer had corrupted files and countless viruses.  It was a nightmare.  When people are infected with sin it is a real spiritual nightmare.  The sad part is that they don’t even know they have been infected.  That is one thing we get at birth.  We are born into the family of Adam and we are born sinners.

Through the process of regeneration we are restored to where God intended for man to be.  Our Father never intended for man to sin and die and spend eternity in hell.  He created man to fellowship with Him.  Wow!  Let that sink in.

Jesus came to earth and died on the cross so that you and I can be regenerated or born-again.  Then we are restored to what our Father created us to be.  Look at Galatians 6:1, “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”

Just like my computer, we can be wiped clean on the inside and start over like we are all brand new again.  By the way, we are brand new all over again when we trust Jesus Christ as our Saviour.  Will you trust Him today?

So, how are you doing?

Thanksgiving 24

I am sometimes amazed at the number of people that really do not believe the truth of the Word of God.  There are religious groups out there that call themselves “Christian” who are no more Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.

One Bible doctrine that such groups deny is the doctrine of eternal security.  Some people call it “once saved, always saved”.  I am thankful that we can know that we are saved and that this salvation is full, free and forever.

The writer of the book of Hebrews makes a great point in support of eternal security.  Look at Hebrews 6:4-6, “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”  I like that word “impossible”.  You cannot again enlighten someone that has already been enlightened.  Once someone has received Christ as their Saviour, that is it.  They cannot receive Him again as Saviour.  If you could it would be like crucifying Him all over again.  We know He died once, for all.  Thank You Jesus!  Have you received Him as your Saviour?  Do it now before it is too late.
