Come Up 3

Exodus 24:1-2, “And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORD, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off.  And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.”

I was thinking about our thought of “Come Up”.  I began to wonder about some things.  One thing I thought about is that the children of Israel were not invited to approach.  I wondered why.  Maybe it was God’s infinite foreknowledge.  He knew that they would soon sin against Him.  Maybe it was the He knew their hearts so He just kept them at arm’s length so to speak.

The children of Israel could have kept themselves clean and ready to approach; but, for some reason that God knows they were not invited. I wish I knew the reason.  God does not share that with us.  So, we must look at their example and just simply try to learn from their failures and short comings.

Even better than that we now have an Advocate in Jesus Christ.  When He died on the cross He made it possible for us to have constant access.  The only limitation is our sinfulness.  If we are in a right relationship with our Father then we can come into His presence with confidence.  Praise His name!

A Closely Guarded Secret

I have a short list of things I enjoy doing.  One is photography.  Another is cooking.  I enjoy cooking and I really enjoy making my own barbeque sauce.  It seems to be a hit wherever I take it.  A friend asked how to make it so as to quiet the roaring tummies of her children by making sloppy joes with my barbeque sauce.  I joke that it is a closely guarded secret (and it is) because I don’t normally share it.  This time to help our dear friends I will send it to her.

This set me to thinking.  I also read a preacher friend’s post on social media about sitting publicly reading his Bible and getting comments on it.  This really cause the old grey matter to start churning and the squirrels began running.

People in our day can have Bible apps on their phone and all other devices.  This way it makes it easier to carry around.  It also makes it far less obvious what you are reading and carrying.  If this is our reasoning for having God’s Precious Word on an electronic device SHAME ON US!

This world is going to hell in a hand basket and we are shrinking and shrinking back.  This is not helping those unsaved around us.  It is time for us to stand up, go out and speak up!

So, how are you doing?

I took the above picture at an orchid farm about an hour from home.  The flowers were beautiful.  In this picture you see a thank you letter written to the owner by a 3rd grade class.  Around it were many ribbons for winning various competitions.  They deserve every one of them.  Their orchids were stunning and some near breathtaking.

Soon I realized something.  I sat photographing beautiful flowers and even had brief interactions with the owner; but, not once did I share with him how to be saved.  I did not even give him a gospel tract.  I sit here typing this absolutely ashamed of myself.  God forgive me!

What if this man dies and spends eternity in hell?  I pray that God will not let that happen.  I pray that I have another opportunity to see him and share with him the love of Christ for him.  The Scriptures remind us of the futility of this world’s goods versus that of salvation.  Look at Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  The answer to that question to that question is, “Nothing”.

How about you?  Are you amassing all the world’s accolades with no care for eternity?  If you would like to know Christ as your Saviour please contact me as I would love to show you how to know for sure that Heaven is your eternal destination.
