Betrayal

Yesterday I was betrayed to the max.  I was dropped flat on my back.  I am not sure if I hit my head or not.  One thing is for sure.  I am so sore that I can barely move.  Getting up in the morning should be a real experience.  I am speaking not of anyone in particular.  I am speaking of my desk chair.  As I was sitting in my chair preparing last evenings sermon I heard a very loud “bang!” and the next thing I knew is that I was on my back looking up at the ceiling.  Thankfully my wife was home sick from work.  She finally came in to find me dazed and laying there still in the part of the chair that I occupied.

I know what you are thinking.  Inanimate objects do not betray our trust nor do they let us down.  Well, my chair threw me down.  It was no easy let down I will promise you.  There are times in life where other people let us down.  What can you do about it.  Nothing.  I know this is not the response we want.  We want to get even.  Well, we want to get ahead really.

Listen as David recounts his own personal betrayal in Psalm 55:12-13, “For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:  But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.”

For me, I try to not over react.  I try to do as Jesus would do and go on.  This is much easier written in a blog like this than to practice it in life.  I must; for the cause of Christ, continue doing what God has called me to do.  There is little time left before the world comes to an end and we all need to get busy for the cause of Christ.

So, how are you doing?

Love You Through It 6

I started out this series talking about betrayal.  I think the worst betrayal was that of Judas.  I cannot imagine how that hurt Jesus.  Yet, we have other instances where Jesus’ own men betrayed Him.

After the betrayal of Jesus by Judas I then think of Peter’s denial.  Three times Peter denied that he knew Christ.  Then to top it all off to show the others how he was not part of the disciples he cursed in Matthew 26:74, “Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.”

All the while Peter was perpetrating his denial Jesus still loved him.  Look at what Jesus tells Peter before he denies Jesus in Luke 22:31- 32, “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:  But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”  I can only imagine the word of Jesus rang in Peter’s ears, “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not”.  Even in denial Jesus loved him through it.

So, how are you doing?

Who Do You Trust?

On Sunday morning our Pastor shared a great message that I have turned into the past three posts including today’s offering.  I hope you have been encouraged by them.

If you live very long you will be betrayed by someone close to you.  Jesus was betrayed by Judas.  I have betrayed people that I know and love.  I don’t like that I did it; but, it is a fact that I did.  I like to think that I am trustworthy.  I am sure that you want to think you are trustworthy also.

There is One person that is the epitome of trustworthy.  His name is Jesus.  He is so trustworthy that you can trust Him with your eternal soul.  People don’t like to think about that; but, one day we will all step out into eternity and then it will be too late to put your trust in Jesus Christ.  I urge you to do that now before it is eternally too late.

We can trust in Jesus’ person because He proved Himself to be who He says He is.  Look at John 14:4-6, “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.  Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  Have you trusted Him yet?
