What Do You Want?

Last night I had the pleasure of preaching at a rescue mission in Indianapolis.  I go every forth Friday evening and preach the chapel service.  The service last night was amazing!  I took two friends with me and they sang together and it was simply beautiful.  God was there and working the the hearts of us and I hope the men that attended.

I related to the men that I have no idea what it is to lack needed things like food.  I said that I was sure that some of them had come to the place where even a chicken bone out of a garbage can would be good.  One man shouted amen nearly full voice I am sure.  It brought things into perspective for the three of us that evening.

Some people; like the lost son in Luke 15:11-32, find themselves in the hog pen eating the slop that the hogs eat.  They have desired the wrong things so long that they don’t even know what is good for them.  Look at I Samuel 2:22, “Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ”  These men had no restraint.  They went after what they wanted.  Unfortunately, the fulfillment of their desires led them away from God.  What do you desire?  Is it wealth?  Whatever it is will pale in insignificance the comparison to God.  The songwriter penned it correctly, “I’d rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.”

So, how are you doing?
